The present invention relates to pyruvate-orthophosphate dikinase encoding polynucleotides and polypeptides. Further, the present invention relates to the use of the aforementioned nucleic acid sequences and proteins in transgenic plants. In particular, the invention is directed to methods for manipulating sugar- related compounds and for increasing oil level and altering the fatty acid composition in plants and seeds. The invention further relates to methods of using these novel plant polypeptides to stimulate plant growth and/or to increase yield and/or composition of seed storage compounds.

La présente invention concerne des polynucléotides codant pour une pyruvate-orthophosphate-dikinase et des polypeptides ainsi que l'utilisation desdites séquences d'acides nucléiques et protéines dans des plantes transgéniques. En particulier, l'invention concerne des procédés pour manipuler des composés apparentés au sucre, pour augmenter la teneur d'huile et modifier la composition des acides gras contenus dans les plantes et les graines. L'invention concerne, en outre, des procédés d'utilisation de ces nouveaux polypeptides végétaux pour stimuler la croissance des plantes et/ou pour accroître le rendement et/ou la composition des composés à réserve de graines.
