A surgical handpiece having two coaxial tubes or channels mounted within a body. The first tube is used for as-piration and is smaller in diameter than the second tube so as to create an annular passage between the first and second tube. The annular passage communicates with a pumping chamber formed between two electrodes. The pumping chamber works by boiling a small volume of the surgical fluid. As the fluid boils, it expands rapidly, thereby propelling the liquid downstream of the pumping chamber out of the annular passage. The distal end of the annular gap is sealed by sealing together the distal ends of the first and second tube and a plurality of orifices or ports may be formed near the seal. As the expanding gas is propelled down the annular gap, the gas/liquid stream is forced out of the distal orifices in a controlled and directed manner.
L'invention concerne un instrument chirurgical de liquéfaction comprenant deux tubes ou canaux coaxiaux montés sur un corps. Le premier tube sert à aspirer et possède un diamètre inférieur à celui du second tube, de façon à créer un passage annulaire entre le premier et le second tube. Le passage annulaire communique avec une chambre de pompage formée entre deux électrodes. La chambre de pompage fonctionne par ébullition d'une petite quantité de fluide chirurgical. A mesure que le fluide bout, il s'étend rapidement, propulsant ainsi le liquide en aval de la chambre de pompage et hors du passage annulaire. L'extrémité distale de l'espace annulaire est fermée par soudage des extrémités distales du premier et du second tube, et plusieurs orifices ou sorties peuvent être formés près de la fermeture. Lorsque le gaz expansif est propulsé en aval de l'espace annulaire, le courant gazeux/liquide est poussé hors des orifices distaux de façon contrôlée et dirigée.
