ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A light color aliphatic hydrocarbon petroleum resin including a piperylene component and a chain transfer agent component useful as a tackifying agent, especially with copolymers. The resin of the invention has a softening point of about 0-40°C, a number average molecular weight of from 100 to about 900, a low Gardner color of about 3 or less, and is formed by the aluminum chloride catalyzed polymerization of a feed stream essentially free of butadiene.
