The present invention is directed to solvated aromatic amines and methods for making same. The solvated aromatic amines are the reaction products of an aromatic amine and at least one of an anhydride, an acid or isocyanate in a solvent. The aromatic amine is typically selected from the group consisting of trimethylene glycol di-p-amino benzoate (Versalink 740M), methylene bis methyl anthranilate (Polycure 1000), methylene-bis chloroaniline (MOCA), and methylene bis chlorodiethylbenzamine. The anhydride is typically selected from the group consisting of methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride, and dodecenyl succinic anhydride. The invention also relates to the use of solvated aromatic amines in gas impermeable coatings for gasoline containers and the like.
