The invention is directed to a method for car- rying out an exothermic chemical reaction with car- bon dioxide (15) in an aqueous environment (11). A fluid solution containing at least one chemical reactant which is exothermically reactive with car- bon dioxide is reacted with liquid carbon dioxide injected (31) at a pressure above its triple point of at least 60 psig. The injection takes place under turbulent conditions (33) wherein the liquid carbon dioxide vaporizes. The carbon dioxide vapor super- heats to approach the exothermic reacting tempera- ture which occurs between the carbon dioxide va- por and the chemical reactant during the exother- mic production of a chemical reaction product. The flow rate of the liquid carbon dioxide can be con- trolled (23) to control the reaction temperature without the necessity of any cooling or heat ex- change apparatus.
