Abstract The invention provides a method for coloring a thermoplastic material by forming a dispersion of a pigment or dye, volatile solvent and optional surfactant, all of which are compatible with a thermoplastic material to be colored. A substantially uniform physical mixture of the dispersion and a thermoplastic material is formed and the mixture is heated at such a temperature to form a melt. The mixture is maintained at a temperature sufficiently high for a time sufficiently long to cause the substantial evaporation of the solvent composition. The invention also provides a colored thermoplastic material formed by this process.
