Spacers are scattered between electrodes, or in black matrix areas, of liquid crystal display devices of STN or TFT type. Positively or negatively charged spacers are scattered on a substrate placed on, and in close contact with, a grounded conductive stage having a resistivity less than 1010.OMEGA.cm. When spacers are scattered between transparent electrodes, a voltage of 200-5,000 volts of the same polarity as the spacers is applied to the transparent electrodes.
