ABSTRACT The present invention provides a liquid crystal display apparatus characterized in that a back illuminat- ing device comprises a combination so arranged that an end of an emission area of a fluorescent lamp is positioned externally of a reflector, and a light guide is integrally provided at its end with a folded portion wherein an incident portion at the end reaches the emission area of the fluorescent lamp externally of the reflector.
