ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electro-optical liquid crystal display device for modulating light beam from a light source uses a novel liquid crystal which exhibits a nematic structure at a room temperature and which has a wide temperature range within which a nematic property thereof is maintained, i.e. 4-normal-butylbenziridene- 4'-cyanoaniline Image . The device provides advantages derived from such a liquid crystal.
