ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A liquid crystal display device for projection apparatus having a liquid crystal display panel of a laser heat write-in type, a frame having heaters therein and supporting the liquid crystal display panel and a pair of light transmission panels located to sandwich the liquid crystal display panel therebetween with a predetermined spacing from its both surfaces, wherein a substantially air-tight space is formed in contact with at least an effective display area of the liquid crystal display panel in cooperation with the frame and the pair of light transmission panels so that the air-tight space can be held at a predetermined temperature. Thus, at least the effective display area of the liquid crystal display panel can be held at a predetermined bias temperature over substantially the entire surface, reducing a power of a write-in laser beam and avoiding an irregular resolution of an optical image to be displayed.
