A liquid crystal light valve includes a first substrate having a transparent electrode formed thereon, a second substrate, a liquid crystal provided between the first and second substrates, and a photoconductive layer formed between the liquid crystal layer and the first substrate. The photoconductive layer is adapted to change impedance in response to an incident ray of light thereon. The light valve also includes a light waveguide for emitting light toward the photoconductive layer from the first-substrate side of the photoconductive layer.
Modulateur de lumière à cristal liquide comportant un premier substrat sur lequel une électrode transparente est formée, un deuxième substrat séparé du premier substrat par du cristal liquide, et une couche photoconductrice formée entre la couche de cristal liquide et le premier substrat. La couche photoconductrice est conçue pour changer d'impédance en réponse à un rayon de lumière incidente. Le modulateur de lumière comporte aussi un guide d'onde lumineuse pour émettre la lumière vers la couche photoconductrice sur la face du premier substrat de la couche photoconductrice.
