Improved Liquid Delivery Apparatus and Method for Liquid Fuel Burners and Liquid Atomizers Abstract An improved apparatus and method for delivering liquid are disclosed for use in fuel burners or atomizers of the type which comprise a hollow atomizer bulb having a smooth, preferably convex exterior surface which tapers toward a small aperture through which high pressure air or gas is forced to atomize liquid as it flows in a thin film over the exterior surface of the bulb. To provide thinner films at the aperture when lower atomization rates are desired and thicker films when higher atomization rates are desired, a feed tube for the liquid is positioned above the atomizer bulb with the discharge opening of the feed tube oriented so that the vertical distance from the front edge of the feed tube to the convex surface of the atomizer bulb is from 1.5 to 2.0 times the vertical distance of the rear edge of the feed tube to the surface of the atomizer bulb. With the feed tube positioned in this manner, the stream of liquid issuing from the discharge opening preferentially deflects toward the rear of the atomizer bulb at low flow rates and toward the front of the atomizer bulb at higher flow rates, thereby permitting a greater range of adjustment between the highest and lowest atomizing rates achievable.
