This invention provides a liquid developing agent for electrophotography or electrostatic recording that can realize a high solid content and has excellent developing properties. The liquid developing agent is characterized in that colored chips produced by heat kneading a pigment with a thermoplastic resin are dispersed by wet pulverization in an electrically insulating hydrocarbon solvent containing at least one pigment dispersant selected from the group consisting of specific modified novolak resins(A) having an aromatic ring and a ring opened structure of an epoxy group by a hydroxycarboxylic acid- derived carboxyl group, and copolymers (B).

L~invention concerne un agent de développement liquide destiné à l~électrophotographie ou à l~enregistrement électrostatique qui réalise un contenu solide élevé et présente d~excellentes propriétés de développement. Ledit agent de développement liquide est caractérisé en ce que les éclats colorés produits par malaxage thermique d~un pigment avec une résine thermoplastique sont dispersés par pulvérisation humide dans un solvant d~hydrocarbure électriquement isolant contenant au moins un dispersant de pigment choisi parmi le groupe consistant en résines novolak modifiées spécifiques (A) ayant un anneau aromatique et une structure ouverte d~anneau d~un groupe époxy par un groupe carboxyle dérivé d~acide hydroxycarboxylique, et leurs copolymères (B).
