ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A water driven turbine, particularly useful for pumping water from sources providing only a low head, is provided with a series of buckets secured to the periphery of a rotary drum. The outer lip of each bucket is so aligned as to delay the discharge of water from the bucket until shortly before the bottom dead centre. The water inlet has a relatively narrow intake end receiving water and a relatively wide outlet end to spray the flow and to direct it along the length of the bucket to drive the turbine by the water falling into the buckets. The invention improves the efficiency of the turbine.
