A liquid inflatable tube, intended to be filled with water, and when joined linearly as in end-to-end or vertically as in a pyramid shape, or both, form a barrier system for containing or diverting water from creeks, streams, floods, and other applications where a temporary dike system is required. The barrier length may be increased indefinitely with the addition of more tubes joined to the end of the preceding tube. The height of the barrier may be increased through the use of larger diameter tubes and by adding additional tubes to the pyramid. The tubes are constructed of a flexible woven plastic fabric. The tubes may be filled and alternatively, drained of water through the use of ports which are permanently attached to the tube. The weight of the water keeps the tubes in place against external forces such as water flow from creeks and streams, and both water flow and wave action caused by floods and wind. A series of grommets installed in a "ground sheet" of woven plastic flexible material permanently affixed to the bottom of the tube may be used to drive stakes into the ground enabling the barrier to withstand greater water flow and velocity without failure. ability. The end-to-end connection is accomplished through the insertion of one end of a tube into a skirt permanently affixed to the preceding tube prior to filling with water. Upon filling, weight and friction hold the tubes in place. A latching system enhances the strength of the end-to-end connection. Where tubes are stacked in a pyramid shape to achieve greater height, another latching system is employed to provide greater structural integrity than if the tubes used only the weight of water to keep them in place. The latching system consists of a row of grommets on each side of the tube which are connected to the ground sheet of the tube above it, through the grommets provided. Various types of connectors may be used such as "S" hooks, quick links, plastic ties and and other devices may be used to latch tubes together, vertically and horizontally.
