ABSTRACT An injection cooling arrangement for a rotary compressor whereby the heat of compression may be reduced more efficiently. A liquid refrigerant line (28) is connected to the high pressure side of the refrigeration system between the condenser (12) and the expansion device (16) at one end thereof and at the other end is connected to a refrigerant inlet path (128, 132, 134) located within the compression cylinder (62). The inlet path is connected to an orifice (136) leading into the compression bore (64). The inlet path decreases in cross-sectional area as it leads from the liquid injection line (28) to the orifice (136). The orifice (136) is sized to allow for the restriction to take place at the entrance to the compression cylinder (64).
