Abstract The invention provides a continuous liquid-liquid extraction apparatus comprising a tank having inlet or outlet means near each end and a plurality of partitions positioned within it defining at least one settling chamber and a plurality of mixing chambers. Each partition has at least one aperture through which liquid may flow from chamber to chamber. Means are provided within each mixing chamber for agitating the liquid therein. The agitation provided is gentler than found in conventional devices so that less energy is required and settling times are greatly reduced.
