- 18 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE LIQUID PHASE OXIDATION OF ALKANES Normal butane and other alkanes having 3 to 16 carbon atoms can be oxidized in the liquid phase with control selectivity by carrying out the oxidation with a maximum of about 100 parts of cobalt ion per million parts of total reaction mixture, up to about 10 weight % of acetaldehyde as the promoter and an oxygen purity at 19 to 100% at a temperature of about 100 to about 200°C.
