The present invention is a system and method for separating liquid from a liquid containing composition which installs in the drainpipe of a building to provide non- blocking separation of the mix of watery liquids, sludges and solids of varying size and hardness into a first stream of mainly larger solids that is directed to the sewer and, into a second stream of mainly liquid that is directed it to an appliance such as a heat exchanger.
