ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for reducing gas bubble entrainment in liquor overflow systems. The apparatus comprising a de-entrainment assembly secured across a weir to define an entrainment chamber which extends into a collection sump, the chamber is provided with a discharge aperture at a position below the level of liquor in the sump so that the chamber shields the liquor flowing over the weir from the ambient gas phase and the liquor is injected into the sump via the discharge aperture below the surface of the liquor. The apparatus also includes means to compensate for flow surge, such means being either syphon assemblies or flow actuated adjustable valves.
