The invention relates to a lithium and vanadium oxide having formula Li¿1+x?V¿3?O¿8?, wherein 0.1 <= x <= 0.25. Said oxide has a monoclinic crystalline structure and comprises non-agglomerated grains in the form of moncrystalline pellets having a length L of between 1 and 100µm, a width l such that 4 <L/l <100, and a thickness e such that 4 L/e <100, with e < l, the elongation axis of said pellets being axis b of the monoclinic cell. The inventive oxide is prepared by mixing the Li and V precursors, without grinding or compression, heating said mixture to 565 ·C-585 ·C and de-agglomerating the product obtained. The invention is suitable for use as an active material for the positive electrode of a lithium battery.

L'invention concerne un oxyde de lithium et de vanadium. L'oxyde répond à la formule Li1+xV3O8 dans laquelle 0,1 <= x <= 0,25. Il a une structure cristalline monoclinique, et il est constitué de grains non agglomérés en forme de bâtonnets monocristallins qui ont une longueur L comprise entre 1 et 100 µ, une largeur l telle que 4 <L/e <100, et une épaisseur e telle que 4 L/e <100, avec e <l et dont l'axe d'allongement est l'axe b de la maille monoclinique. L'oxyde est préparé par un mélangeage sans broyage ni compression de précurseurs de Li et de V, chauffage à 565 ~C-585 ~C et désagglomération. Il est utile comme matière active de l'électrode positive d'une batterie au lithium.
