Non-aqueous solid electrochemical cells with improved performance can be fabricated by employing intercalation based carbon anodes comprising a mixture of carbon particles having different morphologies and selected from platelet- type, microbead-type and/or fiber-type structures. The anodes exhibit good cohesion and adhesion characteristics. When employed in an electrochemical cell, the anode can attain a specific electrode capacity of at least 300 mAh/g. The electrochemical cell has a cycle life of greater than 1000 cycles, and has a first cycle capacity loss of only about 5-15 %.

Cette invention concerne des cellules électrochimiques solides et non aqueuses qui possèdent de meilleures performances et peuvent être fabriquées à l'aide d'anodes de carbone et par intercalation. Ces anodes se composent d'un mélange de particules de carbone qui possèdent des morphologies différentes, leurs structures étant de type plaquettes, de type microbilles et/ou de type fibres. Ces anodes possèdent de bonnes caractéristiques de cohésion et d'adhésion. Lorsqu'elles sont utilisées dans une cellule électrochimique, ces anodes peuvent atteindre une capacité d'électrode spécifique d'au moins 300 mAh/g. Cette cellule électrochimique possède une durée de vie supérieure à 1000 cycles, tandis que sa perte de capacité lors du premier cycle n'est que de 5 à 15 %.
