A lithium ion cell with a polymeric anode and cathode and a separator therebetween. The separator, such as of non-woven polymeric fibers is provided with its own discrete structure, without carrier substrate, and with structural integrity, apart from being laminated/compressed between the polymeric anode and cathode elements. Operable cells are made thinner despite the self supporting discrete structure, with obtained improved rate capacity and high temperature performance.

L'invention concerne une cellule à ions lithium comportant une anode et une cathode polymères séparées par un séparateur. Le séparateur, tel qu'un séparateur en fibres polymères non tissées, est conçu avec sa propre structure discrète, sans substrat de support et avec une intégrité structurale; il a en outre été stratifié/comprimé entre les éléments anode et cathode polymères. Des cellules opérationnelles sont rendues plus fines malgré la structure discrète auto-portante, le débit obtenu et le rendement thermique s'en trouvant améliorés.
