ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lithographic printing plate is disclosed which comprises a base and a lithographic printing surface thereon. The printing surface is formed of a positively charged colloidal silica and an insolubilized hydrophilic polymer which is a nonionic or cationic polymer, or a mixture thereof. The surface layer exhibits longer life and avoids the need for additional water-resistant barrier coats.
