This invention relates to a handling paddle for controlling livestock and the like, comprising a plastic elongated rectangular shaped paddle connected to a lightweight handle to produce a lightweight, durable tool for the handling, sorting, stopping and prodding of livestock and the like. The paddle is made from a non-transparent plastic material and is made wide enough to cover the eye area of the livestock. This gives a handler or sorter an opportunity to direct the livestock to an appropriate location by temporarily blocking its field of vision. The handling paddle can be used for directing, controlling or chasing livestock and the like, and for stopping the livestock in alleyways, and other uses such as in auction markets, feedlots and zoos.
