ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The load anchors illustrated and described herein are for anchoring straps in place relative to a support track, having a plurality of spaced rectangular openings, that is welded or otherwise secured to the sidewalls of trailers and cargo containers. The load anchors of the present invention are designed so that they can be positioned and retained in place without requiring separate fasteners. The anchor means comprises a pair of rigid load anchor plates, each plate having a notch in each transverse edge thereof. The notches define a neck portion which separates a head portion and a base portion. An aperture extends through the base portion, with the distance between the geographic center of the aperture to the deepest point of one notch exceeding the distance between the center of the aperture to the deepest point of the other notch. The apertures in both load anchor plates are not aligned when the notches in the plates are aligned; however, the anchor plates can be moved with respect to one another so as to place the apertures thereof in registry with each other and to enable a strap to pass there- through. When the anchor plates are positioned in an opening in the track and the apertures are positioned in registry with each other, the notches engage the track to prevent removal of the plates. A strap extending through the aper- tures keeps the notches in engagement with the track, and thus the plates anchor the strap to the track. The load anchor comprising the pair of plates can be removed from the track only when the strap is removed therefrom. In one embodiment of the invention, an end portion of the base portion adjacent one transverse edge has a flange which limits movement of the anchor plates with respect to one another when the apertures are aligned.
