ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a load hook for load application in two approximately opposite directions, comprising a hook body having a base part for fixing to a lifting apparatus, said hook body defining a hook mouth covered by a safety catch for insertion of a chain link or cable flange, which is arranged on the side of and in the vicinity of the base part, said hook body surrounding a free elongated hook space limited by two opposite curved end portions of the hook body, which curved end portions form supports for the chain link or cable flange, one of the end portions extending into the base part which carries the safety catch, the longitudinal axis of the elongated hook space being inclined towards the base part and forming a bearing surface at the outer part of the base part.
