2117766 9321449 PCTABS00027 A fastener includes load sensing means (10) having parts (14; 15) relatively movable in response to change in length of the fastener body (2) under applied loads which are registered on a scale (19) by the relative movement. The load sensing means (10) comprises an element (11), U-shaped and made of wire, which has an anchorage part (14), a bearing part (15) and an indicator (17). The anchorage part (14) is anchored to part of the body (2) restrained from movement when the fastener is in use, the bearing part (15) bears on an abutment (9) at the body which is moved by changing length of the body under applied loads, and the indicator registers the loads on the scale (19). The element (11) is retained in retained in a blind bore (7) in the body extending in the direction of applied loads on the body. The closed end of the bore, or an insert (27) at the closed end, forms the abutment (9) for the bearing part (15). A load signal may be given by the load sensing means.
