ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A load monitoring system for force carrying members, such as pittman of production presses, including an indicating circuit having a digital meter for indicating directly in tons the loading being incurred by the member during successive operating strikes. The system further includes a load limiting circuit having a control dial with a numerical readout, which when set to a selected number, causes an overload detector to be activated when loading on the member exceeds the number of tons set on said dial. The limiting circuitry is designed to permit the load indicator meter to register the maximum loading the member sustains during an overload stroke and to hold that reading indefinitely.
