Load sensor having an annular gauge ring comprising an annular inner ring portion and an annular outer ring portion. The gauge ring has strainable beam members and flexing beam members. The beam members interconnect the ring portions. The flexing beam members are thicker in comparison to the strainable beam members so that the flexible beam members are less subject to elongation and compression due to strain in comparison to the strainable beam members. The strainable beam members are constructed and arranged such that the substantially isolated relative movement between the ring portions creates a strain in the load measuring direction in the strainable beam members. A strain measuring an outputting device is adapted to measure the magnitude of the strain and hence the applied load. The load sensor is particularly well suited for measuring belt tension in both idler and torque transmitting pulley assemblies. Also, the load sensor may be used to measure the co-efficient of friction between a bushing and an oscillating shaft.

Cette invention concerne une bague de jauge annulaire comprenant deux parties: une bague annulaire interne et une bague annulaire externe. Cette bague de jauge comporte des éléments de barrette de contrainte et des éléments de barrette de flexion. Ces éléments de barrette relient les parties de bague interne et externe. Un dispositif de sortie de mesure des contraintes est prévu pour déterminer la grandeur de la contrainte et donc de la charge appliquée. Le détecteur de charge convient particulièrement pour mesurer la tension d'une courroie au niveau aussi bien de poulies folles que de poulies assurant la transmission d'un couple. Ce détecteur de charge peut également servir à mesurer le coefficient de frottement entre une bague et un arbre oscillant.
