ABSTRACT This invention relates to a loading change-over mechanism for a video tape recorder, which winds a tape onto a rotary head and allows the tape to travel by a capstan or the like to be unloaded in a stationary condition. The loading change-over mechanism is compact, light-weight and capable of precise operation. The device employs a loading gear ring, a transmitting gear train to rotate the ring in the direction of loading or unloading, and a group of control buttons for switching the gear train to change the rotating direction of the ring. The gear train includes a normal rotation gear and a reverse rotation gear which can be changed over to a reference gear. There is also a large diameter gear having swinging plates pivoted to the normal and reverse rotation gears, and permitting the rotations of these gears to be transmitted to the loading gear ring.
