An improved injection device (10) is operated in a manual mode in which it delivers a liquid drug to a patient at a rate determined all the time by a control member (118) and a cruise control mode in which the preselected rate is maintained by the controller (102) after the control member (118) is released by a clinician. The control member (118) may be used to select one of two liquid delivery rates, or alternatively a delivery rate may be selected which may have values between an upper and lower limit. If the device is operated in the cruise control mode, an override switch (106B, 120, 122) must be activated to reset the rate.
