Microparticle compositions are provided containing pharmacological agents effective when locally released at the heart. They are introduced into the bloodstream and their location is monitored by ultrasound or other means. The microparticles are ruptured with ultrasound energy at a predetermined ultrasound condition when such energy is directed locally at the region of the heart.
