A local oscillator and its frequency switching method, in which local signals with less spurious components can be obtained. There are provided with frequency generators for generating signals with different frequencies and frequency dividers respectively connected to the generators. The dividers divide in frequency the signals to output them in an active mode, and output the signals without division in inactive mode. The dividers are controlled so that one of the dividers is in the active mode and the rest is in inactive mode. The output signals from the dividers are combined with each other to form a single output current and then is sent to a filter. The filter selects a component with a desired local frequency from the single output signal. Spurious components due to unselected frequencies are removed by the filter since they are not divided.
