The invention relates to a device that applies a ferrule (24) to a safety cable (20), tensions the cable to a pre-determined value and crimps the ferrule onto the cable. The apparatus is used with a cable having a ferrule applied to one end and which is placed through a plurality of threaded fasteners (14) with a free end (20a) of a cable extending beyond the last of the threaded fasteners. The free end of the cable is inserted through a ferrule held in the apparatus and through a tensioning rod (30). Movement of the tensioning rod exerts a predetermined tension on the cable at which time the device crimps the ferrule onto the cable to retain it in place at the desired tension. The invention also encompasses a magazine (86) for storing and holding a plurality of females and for inserting an individual ferrule into the apparatus. The apparatus includes a mechanism (46) for fractionally retaining the ferrule in a position to be applied to the safety cable.
