A lockable hinge for use in orthopedic braces is provided. When used in a knee brace, the present hinge provides a knee-immobilizing brace that assists persons with standing and/or walking. The hinge is easily converted from a locked mode to a free range of motion mode and vice versa. When the hinge is in the locked mode, patients are better able to stand and walk. With the push of a button, the patient can bend his or her knee to sit or lie down more comfortably. When the hinge is in the free range of motion mode, patients are better able to participate in physical therapy activities without the hinge locking.

L'invention concerne une charnière verrouillable utilisée dans des appareils orthopédiques. Lors de son utilisation avec un appareil orthopédique pour genou, cette charnière constitue un appareil orthopédique d'immobilisation du genou qui aide des personnes à se tenir debout et/ou à marcher. Cette charnière peut facilement passer d'un mode verrouillé à une marge libre de mode de mouvement et vice versa. Lorsque la charnière se trouve en mode verrouillé, les patients sont plus à même de se tenir debout et de marcher. En appuyant sur un bouton, le patient peut plier son genou pour s'asseoir ou s'allonger plus confortablement. Lorsque la charnière se trouve dans la marge libre du mode de mouvement, les patients peuvent mieux participer à des activités thérapeutiques physiques sans verrouiller la charnière.
