ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A locking device for a dumping snow shovel. The shovel has a handle with a cross-bar in the handle adjacent and parallel to the rear of the shovel. The handle is pivo- tably and slidably mounted to the shovel. The locking device is mounted on the back of the shovel and receives the bar to lock the handle to the shovel for snow loading. The bar can be pivoted out of the locking device to dump the snow Prom the shovel. The bar is also movable within the locking device to allow limited tilting of the shovel, relative to the handle, to assist in snow loading.
