A locking member, preferably used for preventing axial displacement of a stabilizer bar on an automobile, includes inner and outer elements interconnected by a strap. The inner element includes two portions joined to each other by a living hinge. Contacting surfaces of the inner and outer elements are tapered to generate a clamping force when the outer element is assembled over the inner element. The locking member may include at least one locking ridge protruding from the inner or outer element. A recessed ramp may be formed on the other element for receiving the locking ridge. An adhesive may be used to lock the inner and outer elements together. The locking member functions reliably on bars that vary in diameter by .25mm.
