LOCKING MEMBER FOR HAND-HELD TRIGGER ACTUATED SWITCH ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable electric tool has an ON-OFF trigger operated switch and a locking member to hold the trigger with the switch in ON position. The trigger has one end pivoted in the handle of the tool. A portion of the trigger extends outwardly from an opening in the handle so that it can be manually moved inwardly to ON position by the operator while holding the tool by its handle. Such inward movement is resiliently resisted and the ON position is momentary so that when the operator releases actuating pressure, the trigger automatically moves to switch OFF position. The locking member to hold the trigger in switch ON position is pivoted in the handle of the tool centrally thereof and above the free swinging end of the trigger. The locking member is inherently biased to unlocked position. The locking member has an inwardly facing face which engages an outwardly facing face on the trigger, when the latter is in ON position. The engagement is accomplished by the operator pushing in a protruding portion on the locking member while the trigger is held in ON position. The pressure of the engagement between the two faces is sufficient to maintain the locking member in locked position. Slight inward movement of the trigger will release such engagement and the locking member will automatically return to its unlocked position and the trigger will be free to be moved to and from ON and OFF positions.
