A locking or bracing mechanism is adapted to maintain closed, or to selectively permit partial opening of, a closure panel. It comprises a bracket adapted to be mounted to an inward-facing side of a closure panel; a rigid prop adapted to removably engage a floor, a slot comprising at least one detent either in the prop or in the bracket, a seating member located either in the prop, when the slot is in the bracket, or in the bracket, when the slot is in the prop, the seating member being adapted to move within the slot and to be removably and selectively seated in at least one detent. The mechanism is adapted to be compactly stored, used as a locking mechanism or used as a bracing mechanism to permit partial opening of a door.
