A locking or bracing mechanism is adapted to maintain a closure panel in a closed, or partially opened position. The mechanism includes a housing mounted to an inward-facing side of a closure panel, at least one detest in the housing, a rigid prop including a seating portion adapted to be removably and selectively seated in one or more detests, and a floor engaging portion adapted to removably engage a floor. The seating portion is adapted to rest in a storage portion of the housing and the prop is adapted to rest adjacent the closure panel in an inactive mode. The seating portion is adapted to engage and seat in the detent while the floor engaging portion. engages the floor when the locking or bracing mechanism is in a locking or bracing position. When the mechanism is in an actvive mode but prior to bracing, partial opening of the closure panel inwardly will cause the seating portion to engage and seat in a detent automatically to prevent further opening of the closure panel.
