ABSTRACT An improved spring-return, self locking safety pin device is provided having a pair of cooperating upper and lower hollow loop parts; a pointed pin part projects from a front end of the lower part and is positioned in a cooperative position with a front end of the upper loop part. A rotatable sleeve is positioned over back and portions of the pair of loop parts, and the upper loop part has a hole which is adapted to be entered by the pin part. A spring-like camming element is operatively positioned within the back end portion of the upper loop part and has a cam end portion projecting through a hole therein and into a closed-end guide slot in the wall of the sleeve part for guided movement therealong when the upper loop part is to be raised to a clearing position with respect to the pointed pin part, as effected by rotation of the sleeve part. The pair of loop parts are provided with cooperating cam parts and a spring which is operatively carried by the loop part and connected to the sleeve part to flexibly resist forward rotation of the sleeve part and out-raising movement of the upper loop part with respect to the pointed pin. The lower body part is provided with a keeper that is pivotally carried thereby and adapted to be swung between open and closed positions thereacross for enabling the retention of a key-like element thereon.
