CA 1119440

Abstract of the Disclosure A prevailing torque locknut formed from a standard metallic nut body having six side surfaces (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) forming three pairs of flats, an arcuate crown portion (35) extending between the side surfaces and an end surface (30) of the nut body, a bearing face (20) extending between the side surfaces at the other end of the nut body, and a threaded central opening (25) in the nut body adapted to noninterferingly receive a mating bolt (45) in the threads (27) proximate the bearing face 20. The improved locknut has substantially flat angular surfaces (40) at the juncture of a pair of oppositely disposed flats and the arcuate crown portion (35) oriented at an angle of approximately 20° (?) with respect to the flats to provide selective interfering engagement of the threads proximate the arcuate crown portion (35) with the threads (46) of a mating bolt (45).
