ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lockset for a door comprises a latch bolt assembly including a bolt movable between a partially extended latching position, a fully extended dead bolt position, and a retracted position. Spring means bias the bolt toward its dead bolt position. A spindle extends through the latch assembly in a direction transverse of the direction of movement of the bolt. The spindle is connected to the bolt whereby to move the bolt between its positions upon rotation of the spindle. Means are provided for holding the latch bolt in its latching position when the door is open and means are actuatable upon closing of the door to move the latch bolt into its dead bolt position.
