ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mechanism for adjusting the orientation of the arms that carry the backup rollers in a core steady rest. The rollers are rendered fixed relative to each other and relative to the arms. The arms are adjusted toward and away from the log as necessary to maintain equal contact of the two rollers on the log. The adjustment is preferably accomplished by mounting the arm ends opposite the rollers to an eccentric that pivots the arm ends in an arc toward the log.
