Methods and apparatus for sawing logs provide for the separating logs to be sawnautomatic accumulation of logs into separate groups, wherein within associated bins. Eeach group of logs preferably corresponds exclusively to a given set of log characteristics. When a predetermined quantity of logs has accumulated within a given groupbin, that group of logs can be released from the given bin for further processing, such as sawing. In such a case as sawing, all of the logs in a given group that are released to the saw can be sawn before logs of any other group are sawn.When the apparatus and methods incorporate a sawing apparatus or sawing operation, respectively, all of the logs within a given group can be sawn with the same sawing solution, wherein the gap between each successive log can be significantly reduced or eliminated, thus increasing the rate at which logs are sawn.
