A splitting device for splitting logs of wood. The device includes an elongated chassis. A guiding rail is mounted on the chassis. A conveyer having a set of endless segmented members is also mounted on the chassis. Each endless segmented member has a pushing component adapted to push the logs along the guiding rail towards the front end of the chassis. The pushing components are adapted to contact the guiding rail adjacent its rear end and to disengage from the guiding rail adjacent its front end. A stopper component is provided adjacent each pushing component for preventing a pivotal movement of the pushing component relatively to the endless segmented member when the pushing component contacts the guiding rail, while allowing the pivotal movement of the pushing component when the latter disengages from the guiding rail. A blade is fixed to the chassis adjacent its front end. The blade has a frontal cutting edge. The blade is positioned in a frontwardly spaced relationship relatively to the guiding rail front end. The pushing components are adapted to push the log against the blade, thus causing the latter to split.
