- 18 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A circuit is disclosed for sensing immediately reverse motion of a take-up reel spindle of a tape player and thereby excessive tape wind-up is sensed. A plu- rality of take-up reel rotation sensing switches are monitored by a logic circuit and are configured and mounted to produce a proper switch activation sequence when the take-up reel is properly dimensioned to provide an improper activation sequence when the take-up reel is rotated in the opposite direction. The logic circuit monitors the switch activation and enables the appli- cation of continuous drive energy to the tape drive mechanism as long as the sequence is of the correct sequence and above a predetermined frequency or rotation rate. However, if the frequency of switch activation drops below the predetermined level or the switch activa- tion sequence changes, drive power is inhibited, or reversed, depending on the design of tape mechanism.
