A corona charging device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface comprises at least one elongated conductive metal corona discharge electrode supported between insulating end blocks and being coated with a substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide containing conductive particles. The corona discharge electrode may be a thin metal wire ar alternatively at least one linear array of pin electrodes and the conductive particles in the coating are graphite particles.
