An asymmetric field ion mobility spectrometer (10) with ionization source (18) for ionizing a sample media and creating ions. An ion filter (24) is disposed in the analytical gap downstream from the ionization source for creating an asymmetric electric field to filter the ions. An ion flow generator for creating an electric field in a direction (26) transverse to the asymmetric electric field and which propels the ions through the asymmetric electric field towards a detector (32). Un spectromètre (10) de mobilité ionique à champ asymétrique comprend une source (18) d'ionisation prévue pour ioniser un milieu d'échantillon et pour produire des ions. Un filtre (24) à ions est placé dans l'espace d'analyse en aval de la source d'ionisation pour créer un champ électrique asymétrique capable de filtrer les ions. Un générateur de flux ionique crée un champ électrique dans une direction (26) transversale au champ électrique asymétrique et propulse les ions vers un détecteur (32) à travers le champ électrique asymétrique.
